Maintenance Therapy

Maintenance therapy is a noncovered service for Medicare. An ABN is not required. You may cash bill your patients for maintenance therapy services. You have two billing options:

1. Patient needs denial for secondary payer – Submit CMT codes 98940, 98941, or 98942 without the AT modifier. An ABN is not required.
2. Patient's secondary payer does not cover the service – You are not required to file claims for noncovered services. An ABN is not required.
